Look forward to having a new, little drinking spot in Bucktown soon. Charlie McKenna's upcoming restaurant, Dixie, in the former Takashi space, will have a small liquorette called 1952 1/2 in the rear of Dixie's space. Headed up by Jorge Saldarriaga (Lillie's Q) and Dylan Melvin (Yusho), the 20-seat bar will focus on bourbon and juleps, with original cocktails rotating seasonally.

Staying true to the southern theme of Dixie, 1952 1/2 will have some rare spirits and feature American whiskies and Southern cocktails. The bar will also have a short menu of Southern-inspired snacks, an all-American craft beer assortment and old world wine list.

Some of the cocktails kicking off 1952 1/2's menu are the Prescription Julep, with cask strength bourbon, tawny port, gomme syrup, Milanese Fernet and Amaro, and the Old Fashioned, with bonded bourbon, gomme syrup and sarsaparilla bitters. Non-bourbon drinkers will find respite in cocktails like the Suisesse, with absinthe, whipped cream, barley and coconut, and the Iron Cactus, with highlands tequila, blanc vermouth, mastika and maraschino.

The bar will be open in late June or early July, Tuesday through Sunday 5pm–2am.
