Lollapalooza 2024 rumors and lineup predictions

In 2022, original Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge rejoined the band, reuniting the original lineup alongside drummer Travis Barker and bassist Mark Hoppus. Since then, the pop-punk trio has put out a new record (One More Time…) and embarked on a series of arena tours. The latest string of 2024 dates includes just about every major US city… except for Chicago. The suspicious gap between shows in Indianapolis and Minnesotta that falls over Lolla weekend can only mean that Blink is headed to Grant Park.

R&B singer-songwriter SZA headlined the United Center twice in 2023 on her expansive S.O.S. Tour, and now she’s moving on to the summer festival circuit. The “Kill Bill” singer is already confirmed at all three South American Lollapalooza festivals in March, plus a headlining set at NYC’s Governors Ball in June. She’s playing Sunday night at Oshega in Montreal, but her schedule is clear during the three other days of Lolla.

Hope springs eternal for a French electronica duo to perform at Lollapooza, and this year Justice may answer the call. Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé have their first new record in eight years (Hyperdrama) arriving in April, and they’re confirmed for both weekends of Coachella, a host of European festivals, and Oshega in Montreal—which falls during Lolla weekend. Before they head to Canada, Justice will likely bring its latest tunes (and some sort of giant glowing cross) to Grant Park, giving attendees a good reason to D.A.N.C.E.

Mean Girls star Reneé Rapp won’t have any time for media training this summer—she’s hitting just about every major event on the festival circuit, including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Boston Calling and Governors Ball. Also on the “Not My Fault” singer’s itinerary: a Saturday set at Oshega in Montreal, which places her close enough to Chicago (with no other conflicts) that we expect to see her performing inoffensive pop from her 2023 debut, Snow Angel, at Lolla.

Touring behind a record of anthems he wrote to confront the seismic change that accompanied the pandemic, Irish singer-songwriter Hozier has a packed slate of shows this summer—including sets at all three of Lollapalooza’s South American editions. But he’ll be in the midwest on August 2 for Hinter Wonderland in Iowa, which means that you could hear “Take Me to Church” ringing out in Grant Park on the day before or after that gig (just ahead of Hozier’s trip to Montreal to perform at Oshega).

Like most DJs of a ceratin level of noteriety, Martin Garrix has a busy summer ahead of him bouncing between sets in Las Vegas and Ibiza. But Garrix is making time for a weekend of festival dates in Canada that coincide with Lollapalooza, playing Veld Music Festival in Toronto and Saturday night at Oshega in Montreal. That leaves the Dutch DJ with one free night to hit the stage in Grant Park and blast “In the Name of Love.”

Doja Cat was set to perform at Lollapalooza in 2022, but was forced to cancel the gig to recover from an emergency tonsil surgery. Her profile has only risen since then, with a ubiquitous single (“Paint the Town Red") and an appearance on the Barbie soundtrack under her belt. Doja swung by the United Center last December, and is confirmed to perform at Coachella and a long list of European festivals this summer. Her schedule is currently clear after July 14, which means that a headlining make-up set at Lolla wouldn’t be out of the question.

Past Lollas: 2023 (canceled performance)

Yes, Marshmello is coming to Chicago in early April, but he’s performing a special duo set alongside dubstep producer Svdden Death—that distinction could be enough to make a solo appearance at Lollapalooza a possibility. The masked DJ has a recent album of reggaeton-influenced tracks to promote (Sugar Papi) and he’ll be taking a break from his regular Vegas gigs during Lolla weekend to perform at Veld Music Festival in Toronto. He’ll be close enough to jaunt across the border and take over Perry’s (or a main stage) as long as his April gig doesn’t run afoul of Lolla’s radius clause.

The Killers are gearing up for a Las Vegas residency that runs through much of August, coming off of a string of shows in the UK and appearances at Boston Calling and Governors Ball. The band behind “Mr. Brightside” are basically Lolla regulars, showing up on the lineup every four years since 2005. They’re a couple of years overdue for their latest appearance in Grant Park and it could be a great way to warm up the group’s busy August in Vegas. If Brandon Flowers and company do show up at Lolla, you might even hear a few stray tracks from the band’s recently-scrapped album.

K-pop had a huge presence at Lollapalooza last summer, with Tomorrow X Together headlining the fest alongside sets from NewJeans as well as DPR Ian and DPR Live. We expect the trend to continue this year, and Le Sserafim fits the bill. The South Korean girl group released its first English-language song last October (“Perfect Night”), dropped its debut full-length album in 2023 (Unforgiven) and is scheduled to perform at Coachella in April. The group’s affiliation with Hybe—the Korean entertainment company behind BTS and many of the K-pop acts that have previously performed at Lolla—makes Le Sserafim’s journey to Grant Park a real possibility.

Back in 2018, Lolla organizers really underestimated how many people would want to see Post Malone perform in the late afternoon, causing a huge human traffic jam as he took the main stage on the north end of Grant Park. He graduated to the south end of the park (and a headlining slot) in 2021—and it seems possible that the owner of a $2 million Magic: The Gathering card could be back again this summer. Post is exclusively playing festivals, with dates at Rolling Loud California, Governors Ball and Bonnaroo confirmed. He’s got a clear schedule in August, and if he shows up, he’ll definitely get a spot on the biggest stage.

Change is in the air for Kacey Musgraves, whose latest single (“Deeper Well”) explores her decision to quit smoking pot and look inward to find enlightenment, instead. The country singer-songwriter has a new album on the way in March, and just announced a tour behind her latest batch of soul-searching anthems (and fancy scented candles). Unfortunately, she's skipping the festival circuit this summer in favor of arena gigs—she'll be in Rosemont at the Allstate Arena on September 12.
