A new year means new dishes to sample at Time Out Market Chicago—and the arrival of a new culinary concept later this month will provide even more options. On Monday, January 24, Lil Amaru will begin serving a menu of Pan-Latin delicacies, including tacos, Cuban sandwiches and South American chorizo sausages.

Led by chef Rodolfo Cuadros, Lil Amaru is an offshoot of Amaru in Wicker Park, which began serving a similarly-diverse selection of Latin cuisines when it opened in 2019. Cuadros hasn't slowed down since then, opening Bloom Plant Based Kitchen a few blocks away from Amaru and serving a 100-percent vegan and gluten-free menu that features tacos, pasta and lots of veggies.

The offerings at Lil Amaru are inspired by Cuadros' globetrotting adventures early in his career, when he worked in kitchens throughout Miami, London and France. Visitors will be able to sample a menu that's inspired by popular Latin American street food, including bowls of guacamole serrano (accompanied by chips) and tacos filled with pork shoulder al pastor, skirt steak or ancho chile battered rockfish.

Other highlights of the Lil Amaru menu include a Cuban sandwich topped with house-made pickles Dijonaise and Swiss cheese as well as choripan, a South American beef chorizo sausage that's served in a bun and garnished with burnt garlic aioli, chimichurri and arugula. Fans of fries will be delighted to learn that Lil Amaru offers no less than four varieties: Sweet plantains, seasoned mojo fries, crispy yuca and papas bravas. And if you're thirsty, you'll be able to treat yourself to a Mexican hot chocolate, agua fresca or horchata.

You can try all of the delicious dishes at Lil Amaru when it officially opens inside of Time Out Market Chicago on January 24 at 11am. Like all of the other concepts at Time Out Market, Lil Amaru will be open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 11am–9pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am–10pm and Sunday from 11am–9pm.
