When we were kids, nothing was better than returning home to a mug of steamy hot cocoa after playing in the snow all day long. These days, spiking your morning coffee is a close second.

We bridge the gap with our latest cocktail collaboration with Lonesome Rose, a new border-inspired restaurant and bar from the minds behind Land and Sea Dept. (Longman & Eagle, Parson's Chicken & Fish, Lost Lake). Throughout December and January, head to the Logan Square watering hole and order the Hot Chocolate, an inconspicuous menu item that packs a serious punch.

Spice-tinged Mexican cocoa is spiked with a shot of mescal and garnished with a chili-powder-encrusted vanilla-bean marshmallow. The throwback collaboration cocktail goes for $10. We can’t promise it will make you feel any younger, but it’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
