Entering its 102nd year, the annual Chicago Christmas Tree lighting ceremony went through some changes for 2015—most notably, a move to Millennium Park. For more than 40 years, the tree has been stationed in Daley Plaza, in the middle of the Christkindlmarket. This year, the 63-foot Colorado blue spruce, grown in Northlake, takes up residence near Michigan Avenue and Washington Street—just a short walk away from the Bean and the McCormick Tribune ice skating rink.
Onlookers gathered to gaze at the glowing tree and celebrate the start of the holiday season, joined by notable figures such as opera singer Renée Fleming and Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Millennium Park's Christmas Tree will remain on display until sometime during the first week of January.
