The Solianos

Through the years, America has boasted influential music families in the mould of Jackson 5, Bee Gees, The Carpenters and The Everly Brothers (no, the Jonas Brothers don’t count). While Malaysia has yet to produce a chart-topping family musical act to date – although we do have high hopes for The Impatient Sisters – the Soliano family has been consistently churning out quality live music for the past 30 years.

Synonymous with their melodious vocal harmonies as well as a penchant for jazz and pop numbers, The Solianos’ musical talents can be traced back to their award-winning father Alfonso, a jazz legend who founded the then Orkes Radio Television Malaysia in 1957. Following the 2010 release of ‘Pusaka’, the outfit’s first album in three decades, the family has since returned to the stage to showcase their chemistry and musicality at live shows. Catch The Solianos, now in their fourth generation, at NBT this month, with a line-up featuring vocalist and pianist Isabella, Coni on the flugelhorn, bassist Daniel as well as Rizal on drums.
