The avant-garde art rock band The Observatory is a difficult one to pin down; the outfit chooses not to stick with a sound that works, but instead reinvents and refines their sonic craft with each release, having inhabited – and having shed – various subgenres, from folk electronic to progressive rock. Theirs is the Singapore story: their line-up is a rotating one which gives rise to their continuous artistic evolution, with members made of Singapore’s most influential music acts, although the core group of Leslie Low and Vivian Wang remains. Cheryl Ong and Yuen Chee Wai have joined the ranks of The Observatory’s current installment. For their set in KL, they will be screening their documentary ‘The Obs: A Singapore Story’ followed by a live music showcase of their latest record, ‘August Is The Cruellest’.
