Organised by the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (MBRAS), this lecture will feature a talk by the founding president of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin. This is the first MBRAS lecture of the year and it will discuss how the often-quoted words and phrases used by influential politicians of the past can convey certain ideologies to the masses. The talk also investigates if the ‘shared democratic mindset’ of Malaysians are rooted or inspired by the ideological writings and actions of yore.
