When you're looking for a quick city getaway in the city and a break from routine, check out these accommodation in the city that are close to many things to do, cosy and run by friendly staff and often populated by cool guests. Plus, rates are affordable – win win.

The Bed KLCC is a capsule hotel ideally located (approximately a ten-minute walk from the Twin Towers) in the city centre. There’s a good mix rooms from single pods (front entry, side entry, mixed gender, female only) and private single and twin rooms to rooms for families and friends who want to stay together. Other amenities include luggage storage, free WiFi and an Insta-friendly lounge to chill out and meet friends.

Combining a co-living space with social events, Mingle @ Chinatown occupies a fantastic 100-yer-old heritage building in Chinatown along the city’s heritage trail. During its pre-WWII heyday, it was a social hub where locals gathers for mahjong, drinks and poetry readings. Accommodation comes in the form of private rooms (double, twin, triple, quad) and shared bunk rooms. Socialising happens at the rooftop space which turns into a bar as the sun sets, and it’s within walking distance to transport hubs, cafés, bars and local tourist sites. Also within the Chinatown area is the Iron Inn Hostel, which is located a short walk from the Pasar Seni LRT station. Prices here are extremely reasonable and there are many options for shopping, dining and drinking nearby. Stay in mixed or single gender dorms, and there’s also a loft that can fit up to eight people. The hostel is open 24/7, has free WiFi, breakfast included in the room rate and a shared lounge.

For the adventurous this sci-fi themed capsule hotel in Chinatown is just the ticket. Amenities at the Space Hotel, include Android TV in premium capsules, key card access, rain showers, 24-hour self-service laundry, free WiFi and Continental breakfast. Décor ranges from galaxy murals, neon lighting and astronaut paraphernalia and there’s even a slide! There are single and double capsules (mixed and female only), and family rooms.

The minimalist Paper Plane Hostel is housed in a refurbished heritage building in Bukit Bintang. The interior is filled with cool contemporary art created by a team of artists from Bangkok with each painting telling an interesting story. The hostel comprises six dormitory rooms (female and mixed) and four private rooms of different sizes. The glasshouse lobby and rooftop garden are great places to hang out and meet like-minded travellers.
