When Mrs Julius S Walsh Jr hosted the first-ever cocktail party in 1917, it’s quite possible she invited her guests over using that modern contraption, the telephone. But even such a sophisticated St Louis socialite would never have imagined that, one day, discerning drinkers would gather to enjoy many of the same fine concoctions using an ‘app’ on their ‘mobile’.

Happily for London’s 21st-century sipsters, in 2017 this celebration of the classic art of mixology has indeed gone virtual.

Oh, the drinks are still wonderfully, deliciously real, of course, but the brand new digital pass means no more wristbands and no more queuing.

We like! So we’re giving you the chance to buy a £10 pass for just £5.

London Cocktail Week 2017, October 2 to 8

The secret to enjoying a night out with friends is not to drink more, but to drink better.

London Cocktail Week, the biggest event of its kind in the world, gives you the chance to sample the skills and imaginative mixes of 300 of the city’s very best bars. For London Cocktail Week, each of these bars will be serving a bespoke pour for just £6 to LCW Digital Pass holders.

Many of Time Out’s previous Best Bar winners are taking part, reflecting the calibre of London’s cocktail culture. The list includes the Cocktail Trading Company, which will be serving the elegantly named Highest Incarnation of the Revolutionary Cognacship: Hennessy vs cognac, sweetened rice milk and smoked lapsang tea. At Hawksmoor Spitalfields you can choose from the Second Calling (Fords Gin, amontillado sherry, peach liqueur, fresh lemon juice and lavender bitters) or the Land and Sea (Frapin VSOP cognac, manzanilla sherry, fresh lemon juice, home made hazelnut orgeat and a dash of absinthe).

From Trailer Happiness to Aqua Nueva, you can search every bar and LCW cocktail by name or area of London at DrinkUp.London.

Get the £10 digital pass for just £5 with Time Out

To enjoy £6 cocktails in any of the partnering bars, you simply need a Digital Pass, which is valid for all seven days of the event in all 300 bars. The pass costs £10, which works out at just £1.40 a day, but even better – if you buy through Time Out right now, you get a very tasty 50 percent off and no booking fee.

How the London Cocktail Week Digital Pass works

Instead of queuing for your wristband and having to study the guidebook, this year you’ll receive a unique code when you sign up.

Simply download the free DrinkUp.London app, enter your code and activate your pass with a photograph. Then you’re all set to enjoy signature £6 cocktails at all participating bars just by showing the bartender your pass.

Important note: festival goers must be over 18-years-old.

See you at The Cocktail Village

As well as the specially designed London Cocktail Week Tour routes, The Cocktail Village is back for its third year. Located at beautiful Old Spitalfields Market, the Village is a chance to explore a maze of pop-up cocktail bars, experiences and food vendors. Advance tickets are just £5 and available to buy online via DrinkUp.London.

Tickets may be available on the door for £10, but will be in high demand, so advance booking is highly recommended.
