London 2012 is over, the Commonwealth Games isn't until 2014. What, then, can 2013 offer in terms of elite physical performance? Look no further than Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, where you'll find The Tranny Olympics 2013. Originally started in 2008, both to offer a public space for London's LGBT scene and to draw attention to controversial gender testing in the Olympics, the Tranny Olympics became very popular very quickly and spread to Berlin, Stockholm and NYC, where it helped spawn international drag festival Bushwig. Despite the title, don't expect too much sporting here, unless you consider partying and having a damn good time to be a sport. There'll be performance, art, cabaret, DJs, and for those keen to get sporty, a few competitions, including a wet t-shirt comp, eating competition, lip-sync for you life contest, and a throwing shade showdown – essentially trash talking, so sharpen up that tongue. DJs include Princess Julia, Dirt Box Daddies and DJ Cartel form NYC. The event is open to all, from occasional cross dressers to bearded ladies to transsexuals and everyone in the middle. Door policy is "trannys in free (effort = entry)", so get those creative juices flowing.
