Filmmaker Alex Reuben previously directed 'Routes', a film about the music and dance of the American Deep South. He returns with two new projects this week, the first of which, 'Newsreel 1', screens on Thursday and is a hymn to London. It's a film that journeys around the city capturing cultural, social and political events via the movement of bodies and sounds and 'the poetry of its rivers and streets'. On Saturday, 'Dance Reel (Folk Film)' is a talk by Reuben illustrating his manifesto for a social cinema with cinematic excerpts.
