Fifty years ago no one had heard or perhaps even thought of the period instrument movement. When the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment was established 24 years ago it was a radical, daring move. An orchestra with no permanent conductor? Playing outmoded instruments? The players were branded crackpots. All these years later the period instrument movement has flourished and is an established part of our musical landscape. This session features a panel debate including OAE players looking at how the movement evolved, its impact on the classical music scene and how it might further develop in the future. (Includes tea or coffee and cake; event lasts two hours with a short break.)
