A tribute to the contemporary British composer Jonathan Harvey begins at 11am in the Silk Street Theatre, Guildhall School of Music & Drama with a new documentary by Barrie Gavin 'Towards and beyond: A Portrait of Jonathan Harvey'.
At 1pm the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra under Richard Baker performs Harvey's 'Tranquil Abiding', 'Songs of Li Po', 'Vers', 'Tombeau de Messiaen' and 'Calling across Time' in the Barbican Hall.
At 3.30pm there is a 15-minute film introduction to Harvey's 'Madonna of Winter and Spring' in the Silk Street Theatre, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, followed by a discussion about music and spirituality with Harvey and others.
At 6pm, the BBC Singers directed by David Hill perform Harvey's 'Ashes Dance Back' (London premiere); 'Marahi'; 'Forms of Emptiness'; 'Come Holy Ghost'; 'I Love the Lord'; and 'How Could the Soul not Take Flight'.
Then, at 8pm, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony Chorus under Martyn Brabbins perform Harvey's 'Body Mandala', 'Messages' (London premiere) and 'Madonna of Winter and Spring' in the Barbican Hall. This is followed, at 10pm, by 'Electronic Late', a free event in the Barbican Foyer, with experimental musician Leafcutter John, members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and students from the Guildhall School.
