The American soprano Christine Brewer, accompanied by pianist Roger Vignoles, gives a wide-ranging programme to include Menotti's song cycle 'Canti della Lontananza' (composed in 1967 for Elisabeth Schwarzkopf), and the UK premiere of Alan Smith's vignettes 'Letters from George to Evelyn' (a setting of historical texts taken from the papers of a World War Two bride). Plus, encores once sung by artists such as Kirsten Flagstad, Helen Traubel, Eileen Farrell and Eleanor Steber, which feature on Christine Brewer's latest recording for the Hyperion label, 'Echoes of Nightingales'.
