In the summer of 1947 an American pilot saw nine mysterious objects that flew 'like a saucer would if you skipped it across water'. The media pounced on the idea and the myth of UFOs were born. Writer David Clarke was hooked; as a child he joined a UFO society and later as an adult investigated sightings reports, unearthed top-secret government files and interviewed people who claimed to have been abducted.
