Great Britain's cycling prowess combined with the capital's ever-expanding peloton of city cyclists make this London 2012 test event one of the hippest of the summer. The race will start at the Mall at 9am, when 26 teams comprising five riders each set off on a grueling 140km race from the streets of the capital to the rolling countryside of Surrey, and back again. They might even come past your front door – see the route here: http://www.londonpreparesseries.com/roadcycling/schedule/index.html
The Surrey Cycle Classic provides a chance to see Great Britain's Olympic 2008 gold medallist Nicole Cooke and GB's premier men's road rider Mark “The Manx Missile” Cavendish. He's one of the few GB cyclists who failed to pick up a medal in Beijing but is tipped to shine in 2012. Let's hope no black cab drivers try to cut him up.
