Originally the garden of George Thornhill, who built the surrounding houses in the 1840s, Barnsbury Wood is London's smallest local nature reserve. The hidden woodland was eventually abandoned to nature and is now home to a wealth of wildlife including the long tailed tit, lesser stag beetle, common toad and the sixteen spot ladybird. Due to its size and vulnerable nature, the garden is normally only open to the public on Tuesdays (2pm-4pm) and on Saturdays from July to September (2pm-4pm).
The garden will be accessible to the public for Open Garden Squares Weekend 2014 (Sunday June 15 10am-5pm).
