Let’s start with the obvious: Switzerland is postcard-ready perfect. You know it and we know it, with its green rolling hills framed by snow-topped mountains, the spires of its famous architecture and - the real showstopper - its crystalline blue waters.

What you might not know is that nowhere showcases the country’s beauty better than the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne Region, the ideal destination for water-lovers. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or prefer to just dip your toes, there’s something for everyone in this idyllic region.

Throw yourself in the deep end with some water sports

Think of the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne Region as the ultimate playground for thrill-seekers. Take on the winds with some kite-surfing, try your hand (or rather, feet) at some wakeboarding or catch a wave at the indoor surfspot Oana, when the wind should not be ideal.

Feeling especially adventurous? Give your loved ones - and everyone on Insta - the ultimate fright by challenging yourself to climb the dramatic rock faces along Lake Lucerne. The thrill factor is unmatched, as are the panoramic views of the turquoise waters below.

Sink into relaxing activities by the water

Getting the blood pumping isn’t everyone’s idea of a restful time and if you’re more of a peace-seeker, you’ll find plenty of R&R activities nearby. Laze around on the picturesque bathing beaches around the region’s many lakes, head to one of the spas with outdoor pools that come with magnificent views of the mountains, or slowly amble your way to one of the many charming lakeside restaurants.

Want to push the boat out, literally? Bob along the waters of Lake Lucerne on a historic steamboat with the Legends of Lake Lucerne experience, a journey complete with a five-course meal for the stomach and never-ending views for the eyes.

Explore the region’s best local haunts

Prefer not to stick to an itinerary? Hop on a waterbike (or haul into a canoe, you choose) to get closer to secluded coves and the lake landscape’s treasures. For the novelty factor, try the BBQ boat because there’s surely nothing better than indulging in a summer barbecue right on the water, right?

That’s not all: the many charming villages around the lakes are perfect for sightseers after some regional cuisine, local art (or beers) or trying to locate the perfect souvenir.

Hop from lake to lake with the Tell-Pass

Why stick to one lake when you can spend time at several? As well-known as Lake Lucerne is, it’s not the only gem in this part of the region - the smaller towns near the city of Lucerne are also well worth your time. Thankfully, the Tell Pass allows you free travel by train, bus, boat and mountain railway - all you have to do is select how many days you plan to go exploring for. From the winding historic streets of Altdorf to the colourful tourist hotspot of Sursee, it’ll all be yours to roam with this handy pass in your pocket.
