And if you’re looking to make moving more a regular part of your routine this year – or maybe you’re just looking for something new to add to your fitness schedule – consider one of the unexpected workout classes taking London by a storm in 2026. Here, we’ve rounded-up the most surprising fitness classes in the capital for the year ahead. Try something different, get a hit of endorphins and boost your happiness. What's not to love?

But before you give the classes on our hit-list a go, don’t forget about your post-workout snack – which, some might argue, is the best part of the whole thing anyway. FULFIL vitamin and protein bars are perfect for throwing in your bag. They're high in protein (13g-21g per bar), are low in sugar and enriched with a blend of nine added vitamins. Your go-to companion in supporting a fun and active lifestyle.

Take it back to the 80s

Stuck in the past? Grab your leg warmers and stretchy leotards for an 80s-inspired, neon-coloured fitness class at Pineapple Studios in the equally-vibrant heart of Covent Garden. Swing by for a high-energy workout to sweat it out and lift your mood all at once. Expect cardio-sculpting fitness, top-tapping tunes and oh-so good vibes. Better still, Time Out and FULFIL are hosting a special one-off class, and as readers you’re all invited. Now all that’s left to do is tease the hell out of your hair before your session.

Master the art of high heels

Do a downward dog in the air

Beginning to think yoga is a bit of a yawn? Once you’ve done one downward dog you’ve done them all, right? Take it up a notch, quite literally, with aerial yoga. Harnessing the same techniques and alignment of traditional yoga, the classes at Flying Fantastic’s studios in Peckham and on Union Street use a low-hanging aerial sling to help you move through all the usual poses, albeit suspended in mid-air. It’s more relaxed and reduces pressure on the spine and joints while the feeling of weightlessness enables you to achieve a wider range of movement. Talk about hanging out!

Compete while clubbing

Launching in London (and Manchester) last year with a residency at Magazine on the Greenwich Peninsula, METRIX is a wild combination of fitness and clubbing. In fact, we’d hazard a guess that it’s the only class – nay, competition – where you can go head-to-head with others, enjoy an ice-cold beer and listen to a world-class DJ set. The immersive experience includes everything from a high-performance workout to recovery zones and even delicious food for refuelling, plus a chance to win a £5,000 prize with a friend or partner.

Train like a Royal Marine

There’s increasing interest in military workouts according to a 2026 trend report by Bupa Health Clinics – UK searches for ‘military calisthenics’ were 240 times higher in September 2025 than the previous month – while we can’t get enough of the Boots series on Netflix about the hard-as-nails training of the United States Marine Corps. Closer to home, The Commando Temple is designed by ex-Royal Marine Bob Blaire and offers calisthenics training designed to master your strength and control your bodyweight. Where’s the fun? It’s all about learning skills you didn’t know were possible and gaining real-life superpowers. Plus, you get to play like a kid again: swinging, jumping, hanging, climbing – you name it.
