Sited at a former train station, this artsy enclave in Santa Monica—home to 30 contemporary and fine art galleries—should be your first stop to begin exploring LA’s burgeoning art scene. Bergamot Station is the perfect destination for cheap dates and lazy days; if art isn’t enough to inspire, the edgy architecture, stylish café (housed in an old heater factory that serves meatloaf and mint lemonade), and fragrant stands of wild bergamot scattered about should amp up the atmosphere.

This review is mostly for the wonderful Bergamot Cafe. You would be remiss to make a trip to Bergamot station without stopping at the cute little cafe right in the center of it. Perfect for the office workers on Olympic Blvd, they have a great rewards program, a crowd pleasing menu, and great rotating specials. I usually opt for the half sandwich/half salad combo because the "half salad" is a very generous almost full portion. Housemade juices are always a good choice as are the coffees.

Ever wonder where all the over 40-people are in LA? It's like shooting middle-age fish in a barrel...
