The art book publisher's spacious gallery on Beverly Boulevard plays host to some pretty impressive shows. The gallery's inaugural exhibition, "It's Just A Shot Away: The Rolling Stones in Photographs," was a visual history of the band's rise to fame and best years. Taschen also recently exhibited the high-camp erotic art of George Quaintance. The space is welcoming (you'll usually be offered a beer as you wander around) and just the right size—there's always a lot to see, but not more than visitors can handle in one visit. That being said, the shows here are so well-curated that you'll probably visit more than once.
From February 25th-May 2017, TASCHEN Gallery will host an exhibit of new work from renowned fashion and music photographer Ellen von Unwerth, titled Heimat. A possibly untranslatable German word, Heimat expresses a deep feeling of belonging and connection to one’s homeland. Revisiting her home state of Bavaria, von Unwerth has undertaken a year-long photo shoot featuring a squad of local girls getting back to nature in every sense. Amid the region’s undulating fields, age-old traditions, and deep, mysterious forests, the girls happily discard their dirndls and run riot across the Alpine countryside.
