While this pint-sized aquarium can't compete with larger institutions, it more than makes up for it thanks to its location. Situated at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier, the free, two-story structure houses touch pools and tanks with eels, starfish, jellyfish, octopus and more. In addition to its specimens, the aquarium and research lab also hosts parties, field trips and a summer camp.

Keep It Green, Keep It Clean Earth Day Celebration

The pint-sized aquarium at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier hosts this free, family-friendly festival full of educational, Earth-loving activities (with a distinctly marine angle). Bring binoculars to scan the sea for dolphins and wildlife, watch plankton races and fish feedings, and listen to talks about sharks and ocean conservation. You’ll also find crafts, games and face painting.
