Actress Tippi Hedren channeled her love of big cats into the establishment of this safarilike reserve in 1983. The 40-plus lions, tigers and leopards that live here are mostly rejected circus animals and exotic pets. Though this summer’s Sand Fire scorched the area, the reserve remains open to guided safaris outside the feline enclosures.

It was surprising to see Hollywood star Tipi Hedren living so humbly in trailers amidst this wild cat sanctuary. And even more impressive to hear her passion for these majestic animals, urging visitors to do what they can to affect legislation to protect them.

Once can watch these lions and tigers for hours. They are so graceful and striking. It is a wonderful day trip. They also host weekend and night time experiences, which must be even more exciting.
