Time Out says

Birds is a somewhat divey neighborhood bar with decent food, fun bartenders and regular events. It's right next to UCB, which means there are always funny (or at least loud) comedy folk inside sharing rounds.

Personally, I prefer Franklin & Co (on the same block) to Birds when I'm in the area and before/after a UCB show. I just think that the vibe as well as food options and beer options are a bit better. But Birds is a perfectly fine place to grab a drink or bite if you're on the block for a UCB show (the bar and tables are often busy because of the theater). They've got your typical pub fare in terms of food and booze, so you're not getting anything fancy but you know exactly what you're gonna get.

Convenient to the UCB next door, Birds offers reasonable prices for solid food that hits the spot. The dishes are nothing fancy but sometimes all you need is a simple rendition of an item without all the frills or gourmet leanings. The biscuits are particularly buttery and savory. The place is comfortable as well. Not pretentious or hipster at all which is refreshing.
