3 quick tips for taking a snow sick day

The sky is falling! Or, at least snow from the sky is falling. This winter's rainy days are numbered, so you better take advantage of it by playing hooky for a day trip to Big Bear, Mount Wilson and Mount Baldy to ski, snowboard or play in the snow like an 8-year-old. Of course, skipping work isn't always easy. Be creative and keep these things in mind...

1. Be bold and get cold. This isn't upstate New York. A March snow on Mount Wilson and other nearby locations is kind of rare, so don't wait to get out of town and into the snow. Leave soon. Don't overthink it. If you just ate breakfast or lunch, remember that food poisoning is never a bad excuse...just a gross visual.

2. It's so cold, you caught it. Bad. Cough, cough. Hint, hint. All this "crazy" weather means that your weak immune system can't keep up. It's a completely logical excuse to justify a sick day, unless, of course, you actually did catch a bad cold from the changing weather. In that case, stay home, stay warm and eat soup.

3. Make an actual day of it. With ice skating over and daylight savings about to arrive, the last few days of winter in LA are here. So, live it up. On your way out to the mountains, take a morning hike to burn off a few calories and get an incredible snow-capped view, grab an early ramen lunch, and end the day getting warm and fuzzy with a winter cocktail.

Just remember, stay cold and whatever you do, don't post pictures online! If your boss sees them, you may wind up with too much time to go play in the snow.
