At long last—Lyft will start passenger pickups from LAX starting tomorrow

Just in time for a mad rush of holiday travelers! Mayor Eric Garcetti made the official announcement that, starting at 8am tomorrow (Wednesday, December 22) Lyft will finally be able to pick up passengers from LAX.

But this isn't all good news—LAX is charging Lyft $4 for each pickup and drop-off, and the cost will most likely get passed on to the rider. The rider will also have to walk upstairs to the departures area in order to get their ride, which will be waiting for them in an area designated "ride service."

The LA City Council made the decision to allow ride-sharing companies at the airport this summer, so this is long overdue.

No word on wether Uber will be able to pick up passengers. A Lyft spokeswoman told the Los Angeles Times that they are "excited to be the exclusive ride-share option" at LAX.
