Baby, I'm back: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams re-opens this weekend

The Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams drama has been playing out for a few months now. First they opened. Then they closed. Then they reopened. Then they closed again. Listeria, you fickle beast. Quit playing games with our hearts.

Thankfully, it looks like they've finally kicked that bacteria to the curb. Jeni's is opening nationwide tomorrow at 5pm (including the Chicago locations and the new Los Angeles location) with a limited menu of ice creams, frozen yogurts and sorbets. This time around, their products were made at Smith Dairy, who have supplied Jeni's with cream and milk for a while. In a statement on their blog, owner Jeni Britton Bauer wrote, "We built this company as a community—Jeni’s is about fellowship—and our partnership with Smith’s is just one of many recent examples of that."

They'll be continuing to use Smith Dairy until their own production kitchen is running, and will be adding more flavors in the next few weeks. Until then, you can combat this heat with one of their ginger ale and lemon frozen yogurt floats, listeria-free.
