The archivists of cinema culture over at Cinefamily are breaking out of their West Hollywood home and bringing their show on the road to the rest of LA. Since 2007, they’ve been doing showings at the vintage Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax, but today they announced a new initiative called Cinefamily Everywhere, which will see them popping up with screenings all over town.

“Attendance is good (great, even), and we're grateful that many of our patrons are clearly making a trek to get here—but we also want to be closer to our friends in the far east. So we're bringing Cinefamily to you,” Cinefamily founder Hadrian Belove wrote in an announcement laying out plans for the new project.

For the first round of off-site showings, Cinefamily will take up residence at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater. Built in 1963, the Baker theater is tucked away in a spot between Echo Park and Downtown and has fallen on hard times in recent years. The building has changed ownership and people just aren’t going out to see puppet shows like they used to. Belove hopes that bringing in a new crowd for his film screenings will help activate and support this historic LA space while also making going out to a Cinefamily-curated film more convenient for Eastsiders.

Perhaps appropriate for such a fantastical location, the first films will be the playful 1970s works of French filmmaker Jacques Rivette’s ‘dream cycle.’ Presented by Cinefamily’s ongoing French cinema series La Collectionneuse, in collaboration with the art-film oriented streaming service MUBI, the films at the Marionette Theater will be Duelle, Noroit and Merry-Go-Round.

This is just the first phase for Cinefamily Everywhere, which has plans to continue the roving residencies while they seek out a second permanent theater location.

The first roungd of Cinefamily Everywhere screenings take place on July 28, Aug 4 and 11 at 7:30pm at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, 1345 W 1st St. Tickets are $12 or free for Cinefamily members.
