Clifton's Cafeteria opening gets delayed

We've waited four years for Clifton's Cafeteria to reopen—what's a few more days? The historic eatery was supposed to open to the public today—we were reassured it would be ready during last week's ribbon cutting ceremony—but, as is common in the restaurant industry, the opening has been delayed until later this week. And we were so looking forward to Jell-O for lunch.

According to LA Observed, the building was closed all weekend "due to some unforeseen circumstances." A statement on Clifton's Facebook page reads, "Following four years of meticulous work, the dream of Clifton’s journey back to Broadway is nearly complete… but we may need a day or two extra!" The LA Conservancy opening party still took place last night, but it appears that the multi-level space needs some time to put its best foot forward. We get it. There's five floors of drinking and dining to perfect, and with so many people emotionally invested in the space, owner Andrew Meieran has a lot riding on its success.

So we can wait, Clifton's. In the meantime, we'll be dreaming about your Waldorf salad and your mac and cheese and everything else held within your Cabinet of Curiosities.

Check out Clifton's Facebook page for the latest updates—and, of course, we'll let you know as soon as it opens!
