Don't get too comfortable: Temperatures expected to near triple digits this weekend

Just when we thought it was starting to feel like fall, we checked the forecast, and... nope! It’s about to get super hot again.

The weather today in Downtown LA has rested comfortably in the mid-70s, with temperatures expected to fall to 61 tonight and a 20 percent chance of showers. But on Saturday and Sunday, the high is expected to reach 97 degrees.

The temperature is expected to climb throughout the week, with tomorrow topping out at 78 degrees, Wednesday heating up to 83 degrees, Thursday climbing slightly to 85 degrees and Friday reaching 92 degrees.

We’ve just made it through an extra-hot stretch, so at this point we’ve given you plenty of tips and tricks to stay cool. But a hot weekend doesn’t mean you don’t have to stay trapped inside (although, if you have a friend who doesn’t have AC, please take them in). Here are four ideas to get you brainstorming on ways to get out of the house without getting soaked in your own sweat:

1. Spend Oktoberfest at BierBeisl Imbiss, an Austrian spot Downtown. Bite into your favorite dishes, cool down with a swig (or more) of beer and come in costume—there will be prizes for the best lederhosen, dirndl and hat.

2. Dudamel and the LA Phil are kicking off the season with two complete cycles of Beethoven’s nine symphonies. What could be better than hearing a world-famous orchestra play music by a legendary composer in the comfort of air conditioning?

3. You don’t need to be a super nerd to enjoy a look inside NASA and CalTech’s Jet Propulsion lab, but it sure helps. This weekend only, see inside the space that has led research behind unmanned missions like Voyager and the Mars rovers.

4. Although the lows this weekend are still expected to linger in the low 70s, the Music Center After Hours will allow you to experience an interactive performance space from the comfort of your pillow. Best of all, it’s free.
