FlyAway is dropping LAX to Santa Monica service, but there are plenty of ways to get around

There will be one less route on the LAX FlyAway shuttle from now on. The run connecting the airport to Santa Monica is being discontinued after seeing a drop-off in passengers to the point where only about one person was on board any given run. According to LAist, the bus service states they lost about $1.17 million offering those essentially private rides in the two years the route operated.

If you’re a FlyAway loyalist for your LAX commutes, don’t worry too much. No other routes are being discontinued, so you’ll still be able to book your $8 to $12 tickets for rides between the airport and Van Nuys, Downtown LA, Westwood, Hollywood, Long Beach or to the Orange Line Metro connector. Should you have a group and need a larger vehicle, SuperShuttle offers several shuttle service options ranging from $18 for a shared-ride van to $113 for a privately-chauffeured SUV with meet-and-greet service.

For travelers looking to get to Santa Monica from the airport without renting a car, several other options are available. First of all, the easiest option might be to take advantage of the relatively recent policy change which allowed ride-sharing apps to pick up passengers at the airport. A ride in an Uber, Lyft or good old taxi cab should take about half an hour to get you out to the coast. If you’re willing to spend a little more time in order save quite a lot of money, the Big Blue Bus’ Rapid 3 Line or Route 3 Line will pick you up at the LAX Lot C Bus Terminal and get you to points in the Venice-Santa Monica corridor for just $1.25.

Or, if you can hold your trip off just a tiny bit, there's still that forthcoming Metro Green Line light rail to the airport, which should be fully operational around 2019.
