Beloved LA Galaxy player Landon Donovan left the soccer world devastated when he retired at the end of the 2014 MLS season. Fans filled stadiums to see his last games and there were celebrations in his honor, but it all may have been for nothing. After less than two years of retirement—if that's what you want to call is—Donovan is reportedly in talks to rejoin the LA Galaxy for the rest of the 2016 season, with six games left.

According to ESPN, while the deal has not been completed yet, there will have to be official confirmation by September 15, when the MLS rosters are frozen ahead of the playoffs. Their report also says that there's not much standing in the way of the Galaxy if this is, in fact, what all parties want to do.

It's not surprising that the Galaxy would want to bring Donovan in now; between 2005 and 2014, he helped the team win five MLS Cup titles. The team is currently tied for second place in the Western Conference, but Donovan could give them the boost they need to move into first. We're not sure what he's been doing since his retirement, but hopefully he's been keeping in shape.

Last year, the MLS renamed the MVP award in his honor, naming it the Landon Donovan MVP Award. How cool would it be if Donovan managed to win an award named after him by playing in just six games? Here's hoping.
