UPDATE [2/24]: Though the park's general manager decided to demolish the water tank and the scrap garage due to safety reasons, the rest of the ruins will remain standing, according to Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin's office in a statement to KPCC.
The infamous, abandoned Nazi stronghold/'60s artist colony/graffiti paradise that has long been the Instagram prize for Rustic Canyon hikers is finally being torn down this month. The city is demolishing all remaining structures, including the Powerhouse and water tank, before turning the property over to the state park system. According to a recent post from lahikes.la, the water tank and scrap garage have already been torn down.
There are fresh "no trespassing" signs posted, and though we've heard it's been done, recently there have also been rangers and police offers blocking the entrance and citing hikers for trespassing—so do so at your own risk. The area will be officially closed through February 23, 2016, but the Sullivan Ridge Fire Road is still open to the public.
