As if we needed more reason to be excited about the Getty and LACMA's concurrent exhibitions of the work of Robert Mapplethorpe. As part of the Getty's exhibit, Patti Smith will be sharing an intimate collection of songs, poems and stories written about, with, or inspired by the renowned photographer. The performance will explore her unique and extraordinary friendship with Mapplethorpe, one that began in Brooklyn when she was just 20 years old, and has been recounted many times over the years, including in Smith's own memoir Just Kids.

An Evening with Patti Smith will take place at the Harold M. Williams Auditorium at the Getty Center at 7pm on Saturday, April 30. Tickets are $25 and go on sale at 9am Tuesday, March 15 (4 ticket limit per person).

Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Medium is on view at the Getty Center from March 15-July 31, and at LACMA from March 20-July 31.
