A month has gone by since Leonard Cohen passed away at the age of 82, and we feel as though the world has just whizzed past us without a proper moment to send off the folk-rock poet. But a listening party tonight in L.A. should provide the perfect opportunity to pause for a peaceful reflection.

The Music Center is hosting a Leonard Cohen listening party on Thursday night to remember the late singer-songwriter's celebrated career. There won't be any speeches, memorial services, performances or anything like that—just a tranquil, informal setting to listen to songs of love with fellow fans.

The evening's playlist is being curated by producer Hal Willner, who was behind a series of "Came So Far for Beauty" Cohen tribute shows in the mid-aughts. Willner was also responsible for a similar gathering at New York's Lincoln Center, as well as a Lou Reed memorial there back in 2013.

Though heaters will be set up, make sure to bundle up before you head for the Downtown space. The free gathering starts at 5pm outside on the Music Center Plaza, one of the classiest, and most graceful public spaces we can think of. It should be the perfect setting for a night of sometimes cold, lonesome songs from that warm, gravely baritone.

Hallelujah.

The Leonard Cohen listening party takes place on Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 5pm to 9pm. No reservation is necessary and the event is free, though a cash bar and food will be available.
