Uber will be suspended in California unless it pays $7.3 million

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is asking Uber to pony up $7.3 million within the next 30 days, otherwise the cab competitor will be forced to suspend its UberX service. The CPUC claims an Uber subsidiary failed to provide necessary accessibility, service and safety information. The LA Times reports that Uber believes it was in full compliance of the law and will appeal the decision.

You can read the full decision here if long-winded legal documents are your jam, but here's the gist: Uber isn't shutting down. At least not because of this. An appeal would push back the deadline for the penalty payment, at the very least. And if Uber's still forced to pay after that? We can't see the supposed multi-billion dollar company abandoning the entire California market over a paltry $7.3 million penalty.

That said, maybe now is a good time to download Lyft.
