The new Petersen Automotive Museum opens its doors in a few days following a $90 million renovation, which—love it or hate it—transformed the place into a serious architectural statement.

In this 60-second time-lapse video, you can watch the museum go from a bare-bones, neutral hue back in September 2014 to its current metallic design (ribbons or entrails?). We got to check out the museum during a recent press preview, and we have to admit, we're impressed with the collection inside, which includes a gallery of auto history, a vintage vehicle showroom and an augmented reality experience.

Only time will tell if the Petersen's outer appearance will age poorly, or come to signify futuristic design, but the transformation process is captivating enough for now.
