It's the middle of the week and we imagine you're already impatiently, agitatedly awaiting the weekend. Well, hold onto that bottled up aggression for just a couple more days and take it out on the banked roller derby track.

The L.A. Derby Dolls are holding open tryouts this Saturday, October 1, at the Dollosseum in El Sereno. Ladies age 18 and over are welcome to try out as long as they bring a mouth guard, valid ID and proof of health insurance—we imagine roller derby is a pretty effective way to dip into that deductible. The Derby Dolls will provide loaner skates and gear if you need them.

The tryouts are part of the Dolls' Fresh Meat program, where would-be banked-track stars start out before they get a shot at the main team. If you make it into the crew, practices are held on Sundays and Tuesdays, and you're expected to volunteer at all home bouts and join at least one league committee.

If you're interested in the tryouts, you can email freshmeat@derbydolls.com to secure your spot. But if you're still a bit skittish on skates, you may want to try the Derby Por Vida program, a series of beginner skating lessons open to both men and women.

Guys: You're not completely left out of the fun. Men can still apply to be an Enforcer—or referee—while everyone is welcome to attend the next bout on October 8.
