Intensify your routine cardio workout with a not-so-zen Pilates session at the Studio (MDR) West’s calorie burning fitness center. The trainers are taking the strength-based qualities of Pilates and mixing up the routine with intense cardio and muscle endurance. With bright pink hues, open concept space, floral accents, and aisles of high-tech reformers, the pristine atmosphere—just a few blocks from the beach—is a much-needed pairing alongside a bold full body workout.

Studio MDR is an intense workout but they shouldn’t classify it as “Pilates” – it isn’t. The Megaformer is not the Pilates Reformer in the least, nor is the philosophy/premise of the workout. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a challenging total body workout (especially for your arms and quads – holding plank – and squats and lunges for days). I’ve seen avid gym goers get their butt kicked in there. The only problem is that you can get easily injured if you don’t have proper form and are pushing yourself, and it has none of the rehabilitation elements that traditional Pilates provides. If you have any injuries or are recovering from one, do not do Studio MDR. Classes are big (great for attendance) but instructors might not always be able to watch your form.
