Sweet-toothed bookworms, rejoice! The Sugar Games: A Literary Dessert Competition is a heavenly mashup of brains and butter, prose and pies. Presented by PEN Center USA and Angel City Brewery, the public is invited to create and submit homemade desserts inspired by books or literary figures (care for a slice of Ezra Poundcake?). There will be prizes for first, second, and third place, with KCRW's Good Food host Evan Kleiman and the Los Angeles Times' Carolyn Kellogg judging both culinary and literary merit. Once the entries have been sampled, the Angel City Brewery crew will suggest (non-literary) beer pairings. Dessert registration begins at 6:30pm and requires a $10 entry fee. Rather eat dough than spend it? Spectators can watch the competition at 7:30pm, free of charge.
