Time Out says

One of the best things about Los Angeles is that you can experience the benefits of an urban hub while never being too far from leafy parks, hiking trails with epic views and lively beaches.

1 Hotel West Hollywood embraces that best-of-both-worlds vibe by providing an airy, plant-filled oasis within a modern glass and concrete structure. It feels like a giant terrarium plopped down on the Sunset Strip, and it’s also the only hotel I’ve stayed in that manages to feel like a remote wellness retreat while also being a 10-minute walk from a Barry’s Bootcamp. (Bless.)

What are the rooms like at 1 Hotel West Hollywood?

The rooms at 1 Hotel West Hollywood combine high-end luxury with a natural aesthetic. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide sweeping views of the city and materials like reclaimed wood and clay evoke a grounded feeling. My favorite part of the City King room I had during my time there was the live greenery (there was a small tree in one corner!).

The marble bathrooms add a touch of decadence to the rustic charm, offering a spa-like environment for morning routines. While the property commands a premium price, the combination of luxe amenities and thoughtful, eco-conscious design feels worth the cost. One drawback is that the hotel is spread out across two towers connected by a lobby—with its own farmstand, mind you—so it can take quite a while to get from one end to the other.

What are the restaurants and bars like at 1 Hotel West Hollywood?

The main dining offering here is 1 Kitchen, a light-filled space located directly off the main lobby that focuses on farm-to-table Southern California cuisine. I had a delightful mushroom omelette with a side salad and bowl of (actually) fresh fruit. My table also had a view of the tree-filled outdoor courtyard.

In addition to 1 Kitchen, there’s the lobby lounge Juniper, with a focus on cocktails and small bites, and The Pool Lounge, serving light fare on the hotel’s outdoor pool terrace. Like many other 1 Hotels, there is a Harriet’s Rooftop bar here, but this location has an outside operator so the vibe can vary quite a bit from night to night. We accidentally ended up in the middle of a Sunday night rager but decided to lean into the sparkler-accented shenanigans, Monday be damned.

What is the spa and gym like at 1 Hotel West Hollywood?

The hotel’s spa, gym and pool are all located on the same floor in the hotel’s east tower. While the pool is on the smaller side, it has a prime view of the LA skyline that ups the glamour quotient. If you’re looking to treat yourself after a workout, the on-site Bamford Wellness Spa has an extensive menu of facials and massages. I stopped by for a Gentleman’s Facial which had me looking nice and dewy for dinner, and it included a rather relaxing neck and shoulder massage. However, the spa, compared to others in the neighborhood, is also on the smaller side.

What is the area like around 1 Hotel West Hollywood?

West Hollywood is one of LA’s most walkable neighborhoods and 1 Hotel has a prime location on Sunset, just a short walk from the many shops and restaurants of Santa Monica Boulevard. You’re also right next to neighborhood hot spots like Chateau Marmont and Tower Bar where you’re almost 100% guaranteed to spot celebrities. In addition to being the nightlife capital and LGBTQ hub of Los Angeles, West Hollywood is very close to the many attractions of Hollywood. Oh, and if you’re inspired by your hotel’s prodigious greenery, you’ll also want to take advantage of the must-do hiking trails at Runyon Canyon.
