Close Encounters of the Third Kind screening

Stick around after the 4K restoration of this Steven Spielberg sci-fi classic for a discussion with the film’s production designer, Joe Alves. Spielberg’s 1977 predecessor to E.T. still holds up remarkably well; the only admittedly dated aspect is the costumes. Starring Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut, and scored by (who else?) John Williams, the film tells the story of a blue-collar worker whose encounter of the third kind—the term for “actual contact” with aliens—leaves him feeling forebodingly drawn to a patch of wilderness.
