Pay tribute to a musical legend by attending this celebration of the groundbreaking musician and activist, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, at the Mayan. The late Nigerian singer pioneered the Afrobeat genre with a combination of jazz, funk, psychedelic rock and highlife musical stylings. Drummer Tony Allen, without whom Kuti said “there would be no Afrobeat,” takes the stage with Najite, the Olukon Prophecy, Moses Sumney and DJs Rich Medina and Jeremy Sole (KCRW). Attend to see for yourself why Kuti's infectious music has seen a recent resurgence, from superstar fans Jay-Z and Thom Yorke to the biographical musical Fela!
