Amoeba Music
Sarah Hadley

As streaming services have erased CDs from our collective memory, the L.A. branch of San Francisco’s Amoeba Music could easily be seen as a mausoleum to actually leaving the house to buy music. But this, the largest independent record store in the country, is very much alive. The variety of stock (CDs and DVDs, new and used) is awesome, the prices are fair and the staff know their onions.

Amoeba is a great place to go if you are looking for Records, CDs, DVDs, Books, Audio Books + more! They have a huge selection and it's fun to just walk around even if you are not looking for anything specific. They'll also buy your used items at a fairly good rate if you have things to get rid of, especially if you'll take store credit!

Tourists, locals, people on their first tinder dates, Amoeba is the man made landmark of Los Angeles. It is a place still to go back in time and remember or discover amazing new stuff. It has everything without judgement and if people see you shopping at Amoeba, they'll only give you mad respect because you know your music (whatever that is) and you love, love, love Los Angeles. This is the "I Love You LA" quintessential piece of resistance. Check mate.

The quintessential source for music. If you give me another vote I would also vote for The Fonda.

Amoeba is an awesome place to shop if you're looking for not only music but books and movies as well. And if you're not even in the mood to shop, you can still enjoy yourself by just grabbing a spot and listening to some music or reading a book. They also often bring in live bands, which is pretty cool to see. The staff is always friendly as well and with a parking garage right across the street, it's easy to get to!
