While the longstanding likes of Rhino in Westwood and House of Records in Venice have fallen by the wayside, the LA branch of SF's Amoeba has gone from strength to strength; indeed, this is the largest independent record store in the US. The variety of stock (CDs and DVDs, new and used) is awesome, the prices are fair and the staff know their onions.

Tourists, locals, people on their first tinder dates, Amoeba is the man made landmark of Los Angeles. It is a place still to go back in time and remember or discover amazing new stuff. It has everything without judgement and if people see you shopping at Amoeba, they'll only give you mad respect because you know your music (whatever that is) and you love, love, love Los Angeles. This is the "I Love You LA" quintessential piece of resistance. Check mate.
Amoeba is an awesome place to shop if you're looking for not only music but books and movies as well. And if you're not even in the mood to shop, you can still enjoy yourself by just grabbing a spot and listening to some music or reading a book. They also often bring in live bands, which is pretty cool to see. The staff is always friendly as well and with a parking garage right across the street, it's easy to get to!
