  1. The musical zeitgeist never stays in one city too long (Brooklyn, wethinks your time is nearly up). Baltimore and Boston bands were well-represented this year, but the best of 2013 most definitely came from Los Angeles, with an insane number of new, noteworthy and dance-happy acts springing up from Silver Lake to the San Fernando Valley and everywhere between. These bands played the Echo and the Bootleg well before tweaker tweens were mispronouncing their names at Coachella. Boast that you knew them back when, or study up and catch up, as 2014's up-and-comers are already upon us. Here, the best LA bands of 2013.
