Review
Eastside buzz bands, cult-favorite singer-songwriters and surprise sets from everyone from Jack White to Dave Chappelle mix at the Lodge Room, an intimate concert hall housed inside a former Masonic lodge from 1922. The cherry wood paneling and anaglypta wall coverings depicting Egyptian scenes have been preserved. The 500-capacity room fills quickly—people arrive early to stake out spots along the walls, where there’s a carpeted platform that gives you a six-inch viewing advantage over the crowd. Otherwise it can be hard to get a good vantage point. Besides the caliber of talent it attracts, one of the best things about the venue is the adjacent Checker Hall, a gorgeous, high-ceilinged Mediterranean restaurant overlooking Avenue 56 that’s perfect for a pre-show dinner.
