The first-ever OvertureCon will be taking place over two days at the Mint as an attempt to bridge the gap between fans and bands. This ambitious 16+ event is the brainchild of two self-proclaimed ‘music überfans’ (an accountant and a health educator) who were tired of music conventions being targeted toward industry executives. They decided to put up their own funds and hard work to create what they hope will one day become the Comic-Con of music. The ladies are off to an impressive start with 10 hours of programming each day, including shows and panels as well as casual meet-and-greets and photo ops. Panelists include Buzzbands.LA’s respected tastemaker Kevin Bronson and 98.7 FM’s Darren Rose, while live bands include bombastic Lady Gaga protégés Semi-Precious Weapons.
