Pinkies up: There’s an official ‘Downton Abbey’ tea party headed to L.A. this month

There can be a little bit of pomp and circumstance on an average weekend at the Grove, but one Sunday this month, the upscale mall is going Crawley family-levels of proper.

If L.A.’s current heatwave has you yearning for an English countryside escape—or if for whatever reason you’ve wished it were 1927—you’re in more luck than a servant keeping a dark family secret because a Downton Abbey high tea lands on the Grove’s lawn September 15.

Downton fiends have probably already guessed that the all-day affair is in promotion of the historical drama’s new movie, which hits theaters September 20 and reunites the gossip-loving Crawley household from the hit BBC series. The aristocrats and co. are receiving a visit from the King and Queen of Great Britain—a big to-do, or something—and while they’ll be setting out their finest silver, so will Amazon’s roving Treasure Truck.

The deals-on-wheels machine is teaming up with Focus Features to replicate a Downton garden party, complete with staff and actors dressed in period attire and doling out high-tea treats. You can expect scones, biscuits and tea sandwiches, among other surprises.

You can even take part in a few of the Crawleys’ favorite Downton-estate pastimes, including croquet. Of course there probably won’t be much of the family’s actual favorite pastime, scandal—regardless, even if that is what you’re looking for, it’s probably still worth a visit. After all, as a wise woman once said, it seems a pity to miss a good pudding.

Don your finest and find the Downton Abbey Grand High Tea Experience on the lawn at the Grove, 189 The Grove Dr, on Sunday, September 15, from noon to 6pm.
