Born in Santa Barbara, Backyard Bowls has made its way to Beverly with a sleek, minimalstic design and kickass acai bowls. It's not just that the sizeable bowls are well worth the average $10 you'll be spending on them (the small is plenty, trust us) but that the mangoes taste like they've been plucked straight from the trees, the bananas are always perfectly ripe, and the blended acai is consistently creamy. Place your order—Island Bowl? Green Bowl? Power Bowl? You can't go wrong.—then move on down the line to watch your pick being whipped up behind a glass work station. There are porridge bowls, too, like Mama's Oatmeal and Ancient Grains, along with a slew of smoothies and Four Barrel coffee. Thanks for making the move to LA, Backyard Bowls—we're glad you're here.

If you are in the market for a trendy LA spot filled with yoga girls who are refueling their hot and sweaty sessions with a bowl full of pseudo-healthy food, Backyard Bowls is your place! Wish I could name one redeeming quality, like the customer service, but, unfortunately, that was subpar as well.
Unlike some soupy messes that call themselves acai bowls, Backyard Bowls lives up to its good looks. Fresh and frosty, the Power Bowl is my go-to, with peanut butter, bananas and blueberries. The small bowl should be plenty for breakfast, and at just under $9, is a pretty alright deal.
